How to Beat a Work From Home Rut

Mon Oct 26, 2020

Work from home has become the new norm for many Canadians. Some have been living this reality for over half a year now, and it can easily take a toll on your mental and physical well-being. While we don’t know when these precautions will no longer be necessary, we can choose to adapt and make the best of a difficult situation.

Here are our 3 tips for success when working from home.

1. Set yourself up for success with the right space and functional equipment.

We know that not everyone has access to a dedicated working space in the home so wherever you find yourself, at the kitchen table or on the couch, make sure you have removed any glaring distractions. Looking at you, dishes in the sink!

If you do have room available, carefully consider how you will actually use the space throughout the day. Try to find a balance between functionality, ergonomics and aesthetics with your choice of furniture and office equipment.

2. No matter how tempting it is to stray, stick to your routine.

“YoungBeing at home means being around more distractions with less supervision. To help with this, set measurable goals for yourself each day, and if a check on a list isn’t satisfactory enough, reward yourself for your accomplishments—did someone say pizza?!

If you do notice you’re slipping up, get a new perspective. Sometimes all it takes is a fresh cup of coffee and a new view to help you get back to work. If that fails, take a walk or lean on your team for support!

3. Remember to connect with your co-workers.

It’s okay to discuss non work-related items when you’re feeling a bit off—we’ve all been there. Your peers can help motivate you with understanding, a funny GIF, or even a tip that’s worked well for them. Whenever possible, turn on your camera for face-to-face interactions too.

Although small, these 3 tips can make a big difference when working from home long term. If you’d like help sourcing any furniture or equipment, please contact us today. We carry some of the best brands in the industry and can also help with design layouts.
